Contemplative Mass

Contemplative Mass led by Fr. Kevin McGee Friday, Sept. 1st. at 7 p.m. at St. Augustine Church, 602 Boychuk Dr. The rhythm of the Contemplative Mass is a gentle , steady flow, marked by 20 minutes of silence after Communion. It is designated to allow space for reflection and recognition of the intimate presence of Christ who comes to us through scripture and the Eucharist. Silence within this form of worship can feel uncomfortable or awkward, especially when experienced for the first time. We encourage you to relax and rest in the abiding presence of God.

Sion Academy reunion

Fifty years after the closing of the Convent of Sion at 830 Idylwyld Drive, over 300 former students and teachers will gather Sept 1-3, 2017 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the arrival of the Sisters of Sion in Saskatoon. “The Sisters of Sion have generously made a huge contribution to Catholic education in our city and in the lives of their students. We will honor and celebrate them. We are all getting older, as are our much-loved teachers, and this will probably be the last general reunion of our Academy,” said Elaine Zakreski, a Sion Alumna and chairperson of “The Friends of Sion” The Gala Reunion Committee has spent the last year looking for all the hundreds of former students who benefited from the generosity of the Sisters of Sion in Saskatoon.  “We have managed to find people who attended as far back as 1936. There is a lot of excitement and anticipation out there, among people who will gather to reconnect with former classmates and teachers,” said Zakreski. The weekend celebration begins with a Meet and Greet on Friday Sept 1 and ends with Mass and breakfast on Sunday. All events will take place at Holy Family Cathedral, 123 Nelson Road. Event planners have constructed a huge display that includes a pictorial wall, depicting the history of the Academy and its students through the years. The wall is full of the obituaries of former Sionians, stories of those still living, photographs of teachers and students, and artifacts of all kinds. A key event will be the presentation by two of the Sisters of Sion (Sr. Jocelyn Monette and Sr. Marge Zdunich, both Saskatoon Sion grads) about Sion’s Charism in the World Today.  For further information: Call Elaine Leier Zakreski 306-652-1382.
